Anthropic in a panic mode. Yeah as things look RN OpenAI+US government are on the war path to bring Anthropic to its knees. I mean blacklisting it...

Would Anthropic's fall be good or bad for us?

Is the next step: "Use of any Chinese models is strictly prohibited..." ?

Also if the blacklisting by DoW ("no contractor, supplier, or partner that does business with the United States military may conduct any commercial activity with Anthropic") is being taken seriously, that means AWS and other cloud backbones of Anthropic would then take their hands off, letting Anthropic dry in th air, no?

They (Anthropic) are though in a panic mode rn.

The government strong arming private companies into letting them use their technology and using unprecedented repercussions to do so is absolutely not helpful to anyone.

Its only a matter of time before Sam or Elon whisper in Trump's ears about how dangerous it is to have any Chinese models even hosted anywhere by any company operating in the U.S.

It doesnt matter if you like Anthropic or not. This sets a precedent of the bullshit to come.

The irony of calling China the existential AI threat just to be offed by your own government instead.......

On the one hand I do appreciate them drawing a red line, on the other hand they wanted to get in bed with the Trump Dept of War and then surprised they got burned

Even if they went down, someone will just buy them. Not much would change I think.

Anthropic gonna be getting a lot of trust and support after standing up strong for their privacy and safety values.

Anthropic was advocating to restrict open weights. Now they're persona non grata and their lobbying efforts are more likely to fall flat.

An organic fall would be good because it would cool off the hardware market somewhat. A forced fall as a result of recent events would set a very bad precedent.

They've released 0 local models. Fuck 'em.

Would be funny if as a result Anthropic is forced to buy GPUs from China, thus strenthening them even better

As far as I'm concerned, Anthropic could go bankrupt right now, nothing would change.

Anthropic has never implemented any open-source model, and Chinese companies have done more for those who want to use a local model than Anthropic has ever done in all of history.

TBH it sounds like they tried to play hard to get, and then they got got lol.

Would Anthropic's fall be good or bad for us?

probably inconsequential as far as we're concerned.

Let's not forget, Amodei was never a friend of open weight models and tried to tell people they're not viable.

i don't think your youtube title being A in panic mode is correct. They made a very conscious decision not to engage into supporting a fascist regime. Plain simple. They don't want to be called the Siemens family after the facts....

u/ForsookComparison (13 pts):
To me the fact that Dario and friends didn't cave to requests to make a kill-friendly Claude means that they think there's more money in pushing for safety regulations than there is in getting US military contracts.

THAT is scary for the future of self hosted LLMs if true.

u/EfficientAd4162 (8 pts):
Why would they be in panic mode? They were warned if you do X, Y will happen. They did X and Y happened.

If they were in panic mode they would not have done X.

On one hand good on Anthropic for standing up to Hesgeth I applaud them for saying no and taking the hit and sticking to their principles. Imagine Trump admin getting their hands on AGI or ASI - what a dystopia that would end up being.

On the other hand the irony is palpable - Anthropic the most hawkish and "muricah!" lab with a tinge of xenophobia gets hoisted on its own petard by its own government.

They just have to survive until the next US election. Because, and don't get confused, a company's first thought is profit, not morals. Choosing to not work with Republicans is a nod to Democrats.

I'm rooting for China. America is not in a good place these days.
