KLASSIQTUNEZ posted a 34-item list of masculine etiquette and character rules on…

Brief

KLASSIQTUNEZ’s thread presents a highly prescriptive set of 34 rules for raising sons, framed as a blend of manners, discipline, confidence, and old-fashioned masculinity. The list ranges from handshake etiquette and clothing norms to broader life principles such as staying calm under pressure, standing up to bullies, and being both confident and humble. A few items touch on business and leadership, notably the advice to avoid making the first offer in negotiation and to take blame while giving others credit. The thread then abruptly turns into an advertisement for the author’s tailoring business, including bespoke suit and kaftan pricing in naira and links for direct purchase. Reply discourse split between readers who saw the list as a blueprint for character and others who argued that fixed rules are less valuable than teaching discernment, with specific skepticism about the negotiation advice and some of the more theatrical etiquette prescriptions.

Why it matters

KLASSIQTUNEZ posted a 34-item list of masculine etiquette and character rules on 2026-02-04, including "never shake a man’s hand sitting down," "in a negotiation, never make the first offer," "give credit, take the blame," and "dress how you want to be addressed."

Key details

  • The thread mixes social conduct, self-presentation, and moral instruction: keep secrets, return a borrowed car with a full tank, delete angry emails instead of sending them, protect people being bullied, and "lead by example — not explanation."
  • Tweets 2-5 pivot from advice into self-promotion for tailoring services, advertising bespoke suits at 200,000 naira and kaftans at 120,000 naira with worldwide shipping via WhatsApp and email contact.
  • Replies challenged some of the rules on practical grounds, especially rule #4 on negotiations and the instruction not to enter a pool by the stairs, while other commenters praised rule #26 ("Give credit. Take the blame") and added etiquette norms like bringing a host gift or letting people exit a lift first.

RULES TO TEACH YOUR SON 1. Never shake a man’s hand sitting down. 2. Don’t enter a pool by the stairs. 3. The man at the BBQ grill is the closest thing to a king. 4. In a negotiation, never make the first offer. 5. Request the late check-out. 6. When entrusted with a secret, keep it. 7. Hold your heroes to a higher standard. 8. Return a borrowed car with a full tank of gas. 9. Play with passion — or don’t play at all. 10. When shaking hands, grip firmly and look them in the eye. 11. Don’t let a wishbone grow where a backbone should be. 12. If you need music on the beach, you’re missing the point. 13. Carry two handkerchiefs. One in your back pocket is for you. One in your breast pocket is for her. 14. You marry the girl, you marry her family. 15. Be like a duck. Remain calm on the surface and paddle like crazy underneath. 16. Experience the serenity of traveling alone. 17. Never be afraid to ask out the best-looking girl in the room. 18. Never turn down a breath mint. 19. A sport coat is worth a thousand words. 20. Try writing your own eulogy. Never stop revising. 21. Thank a veteran. Then make it up to him. 22. Eat lunch with the new kid. 23. After writing an angry email, read it carefully. Then delete it. 24. Ask your mom to play. She won’t let you win. 25. Manners maketh the man. 26. Give credit. Take the blame. 27. Stand up to bullies. Protect those being bullied. 28. Write down your dreams. 29. Take time to snuggle your pets. They love you and are always happy to see you. 30. Be confident and humble at the same time. 31. If ever in doubt, remember whose son you are — and REFUSE to be ordinary. 32. In all things, lead by example — not explanation. 33. Dress how you want to be addressed. 34. Be blessed by being a blessing. --- RULES ARE RULES

Me vs Another Man's Son in a deal after both of us learnt No. 4 from our various parents..

Never show up to dinner or anyone’s house empty handed.

Always walk on the street side of the sidewalk when out with your significant other

These are etiquette tips, not life training. A son needs discernment, not rehearsed masculinity. Teaching rules creates compliance. Teaching principles creates men who adapt when rules stop working.

This is a solid blueprint for character. It’s not just about etiquette; it’s about teaching a kid how to have a backbone while still being a decent human being. Rule #26 (Give credit, take the blame) is probably the rarest trait in the world right now—if a kid actually learns

Somewhere along the way parents stopped teaching these rules which is so sad. I’ll add one more - take your hat off when indoors or when the National Anthem is being played.

OK, I get most of this, but... "Don't enter a pool by the stairs"...?

I’d like to quibble on number 3. My BIL burnt meat. Cooked steaks well done. Not a king. We evicted him from grill duty at his home. Had to be done. Overthrow the king.

I would marry this manSuch excellent advice. I like the two handkerchiefs. Elegant. Always treat a woman with respect. Your Grandmother, Your Mother, Your Girfriend, your Daughters, Your Wife and even an ex. Being a Gentleman positions you every where you go.

Stand up when someone comes into your room / office or comes to your table (apart from the waiter - that would be weird) and yes shake hands. Always hold the door open for others (regardless of gender) and for fucks sake let people get out of the lift before walking in to it.

Also, if you lie down with dogs, you get up with fleas.

No. 4 Rule depends on which negotiating side you're on, or does not apply in every negotiation.

I always let my daughters win the board games until a certain age. I was very upset the first time my daughter beat me at Scrabble when I was trying to win. But another part of me was so proud.

33 speaks volumes to me. I recently started wearing my "Sunday best" church clothes as my everyday outfits. In 44 years I've rarely gotten compliments on how I look. Wearing button down shirts and a tie I get a compliment almost every day now. People assume I must be important
