I didn’t realize this before. I naturally assumed Intel would have a supply advantage over AMD in CPUs.
But Qualcomm and MediaTek apparently cut their TSMC 4/5nm orders because mid- to low-end smartphone shipments literally collapsed. AMD seems to have taken over that capacity.
Right now, even CPUs produced on older nodes are being bought up by customers lining up for supply. AMD’s earnings could be worth getting excited about.
