Brief

OpenAI's Daybreak, announced 11 May 2026, is described by @cryptopunk7213 as a “mythos-level” custom 5.5 security model that pairs top OpenAI models and Codex with security partners. The post highlights Daybreak's claims to detect/fix code vulnerabilities, proactively model and defend against complex attacks, and collaborate with security engineers, singling out proactive attack modeling as the key advance.

Why it matters

On 2026-05-11 @cryptopunk7213 reports OpenAI released a “mythos-level” security model (a custom version of model 5.5) called Daybreak, which OpenAI says combines its most capable models, Codex, and security partners.

Key details

  • The author lists three Daybreak capabilities—(1) understand, detect and fix security vulnerabilities in code, (2) model complex attacks and defend proactively, and (3) actively work with security engineers—and emphasizes point 2 as the most important because AI proliferation will create exotic attack vectors, enabling AI to fight AI.
Source evidence

hell yeah! openai just released their new mythos-level security model (before anthropic did)

this sounds like it’s a custom version of 5.5 that can:

> understand, detect and fix security vulnerabilities in your code

> model out complex attacks and defend against them before they happen

> actively work with security engineers to make enhance their work

point 2 is the winner here imo. as AI proliferates in software there will be many exotic attack vectors…

now we can use AI to fight AI.
