Many parents push their kids to learn something. But if kids aren't interested, they'll stop after college when parents aren't looking.
Many people I know who were in youth Olympiads stop pushing the frontier because they are no longer interested in the subjects.
As a result, their understanding of the frontier regressed to zero.
